Fall Fashion Preview
The luxe life at Michael Kors: Opulent comfort clothes — and new movie-star sunglasses, too
NEW YORK — Michael Kors is one busy guy.
During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, he presented his fall collection, which he labels "opulent restraint," in the morning and provided a backstage look to fans on Snapchat. That night, he joined such celebrities as Kate Hudson and Allison Williams at his SoHo flagship store to launch a new sunglass collection, called the Miranda, that promises a "movie-star appearance" after a long flight, he told reporters.
Among the most eye-catching looks is an oversized fur coat in a peacock shade, over a mohair pullover and lace skirt, modeled by Kendall Jenner.
For fall, Kors offers a slew of what I call "comfort clothes" — tailored capes, cable knit skirts and sweater combos, camel trench coats (one looks like something Sherlock Holmes would wear), languid paisley pajama pants and skirt — in luxurious fabrics. A ruffled white blouse — a staple of any well-dressed woman's collection — is paired with charcoal skirt and slick two-piece guncheck wool suits are accented with fur.
Among the most eye-catching looks is an oversized fox fur coat in a peacock shade, over a fluffy mohair turtleneck and lace skirt in the same color, modeled by Kendall Jenner.
While not cutting edge, the looks have a classic quality that justify the investment. As usual, the collection is heavy on chic sportswear — a Kors trademark — with only a handful of evening looks.
But the closers, featuring two of his favorite models, Karmen Perdaru and Karlie Kloss, in silver gowns add some glittery star quality to the otherwise down-to-earth collection.
