Passion For Fashion
Houston Community College's annual fundraiser shows why caring never goes out of style
Of all the events on the spring social calendar, none is as glamorous as the Passion for Fashion luncheon held in the soaring grand foyer of the Wortham Theater Center. The annual event benefits Houston Community College's award-winning fashion and interior design education programs and is a must-attend for stylemakers and fashion devotees.
From sketch pad to retail floor, the fashion industry runs on passion, hard work and creativity. The high-wattage luncheon on Feb. 28 celebrates all that and more, with special guest Terron Schaefer.
As the executive vice president and chief creative officer of Saks Fifth Avenue and a mentor on NBC's "Fashion Star," Schaefer has worked for decades in the fashion industry, associated with retail's most prestigious companies such as Bloomingdale's, Harrods and Macy's.
Ask any designer familiar with Houston and they will all rave about the city's well-dressed women.
Rather than just give a speech, Schaefer will be interviewed by CultureMap's editor-in-chief and fashion writer Clifford Pugh, for an insightful look into Schaefer's career and the fashion scene.
Since the Passion for Fashion luncheon launched on 2009, some of the design industries brightest have appeared at the event, including Cesar Galindo, Dana Buchman, Badgley Mischka and Andrew Gn.
Ask any designer familiar with Houston and they will all rave about the city's well-dressed women who know color is key, and you are never ready to walk out the door unless accessorized.
Past Passion for Fashion events honored Becca Cason Thrash and Diane Lokey Farb with the HCC Design Society Fashion Icons honor, as women who exemplify Houston style at its best.
The 2013 HCC Design Society Fashion Icon honoree Sheridan Williams is plugged into Houston's philanthropic scene as well, but she also shares an innate sense of fashion as a Donna Karan ambassador.
Education is at the heart of the Passion for Fashion luncheon, providing scholarship money for fashion and interior design students as well as a chance for HCC students to really delve deep into the world of fashion. The school's award-winning program gets students an up close educational experience with designer via master classes and lectures presented by the fashion guest.
The Passion for Fashion fundraiser is hosted by chairmen Liz Glanville and Paula Fyhr, along with co-chairmen Kelli Cohen Fein and Mary Ann McKeithan.
