Nearly nude streaker can't slow down a hot New York fashion week show: Prabal Gurung gets colorful

NEW YORK — With models in billowy chiffon skirts and waffle knit sweaters walking slowly amid oversized gold medallions in an otherwise pitch-black room, the start of the Prabal Gurung fashion show had a placid Zen-like feeling. The fall 2014 collection was meant to be salute to the designer's homeland of Nepal, with saffron-colored monk's robes re-imagined as intricately draped dresses amid cocoon coats, cashmere turtlenecks, tulle-draped blouses and crystal-beaded evening gowns.

The peaceful atmosphere was shattered when a cheeky man wearing a gold crown and animal-print thong scampered around a stone-faced model who didn't break her stride.

But that peaceful atmosphere was quickly shattered when a cheeky man wearing a gold crown, dark trench coat, red socks and not much else — only an animal-print thong — scampered around a stone-faced model who didn't break her stride.

This piece of performance art made the Gurung show memorable. But the designer's fall 2014 collection can stand on its own, with the exquisite draping, rich colors and a mixture of fabrics that usually aren't combined, like wool tailored jackets with satin sashes, chiffon skirts with flowing satin tails, and slacks of flannel combined with sable.

Shades of bordeaux, crimson and cantaloupe stood out, particularly in the evening looks, where beaded halters adorned with Swarovski crystals sparkled. With the Oscars less than a month away and Gurung an up-and-coming Hollywood favorite (he dressed Sandra Bullock and Zoe Saldana at last month's Golden Globes), no doubt stylists in the audience were eyeing such looks with red carpet potential.

As for the streaker, the New York Times reports that he has quite a history. Vitalii Sediuk disrupted the Grammy Awards last year just as Adele was about to collect an award and grabbed Bradley Cooper in a “crotch embrace” on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month. He reportedly got into the Gurung show on a Ukrainian press pass.

The show's organizers said that no charges would be filed.

Rag & Bone fall collection salutes Cosby and the working-class hipster

NEW YORK — Rag & Bone designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville are mixing it up for fall with a lot of different looks for the cool girl who doesn't want to try too hard to look hip. When the collection was shown at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week a few months ago, Georgia May Jagger (Mick and Jerry Hall's gorgeous gap-toothed daughter) strolled down the runway in a cream satin bowling shirt, with her name embroidered on it, and chocolate twill slack, setting the tone for the breezy collection.

Wainwright and Neville teamed with Coogi, the original creator of the Cosby sweater, to update the textured knit in pencil skirts and cropped sweaters.

There aren't a lot of office clothes in this collection that will arrive stores in a few weeks; instead Wainwright and Neville are in a casual, working-class mode, with buffalo check jackets, shearling work vests, paint-splattered skirts and pants, cropped sweaters and ribbed leggings.

The duo even salutes, of all things, '80s-era Bill Cosby, with squiggly-patterned sweaters inspired by those worn by the comedian in The Cosby Show, one of the decade's most popular TV shows. Wainwright and Neville teamed with Coogi, the original creator of the Cosby sweater, to update the textured knit for pencil skirts and cropped sweaters.

But R&B fans looking for something more formal to wear don't have to panic just yet. The duo includes a smattering of boyfriend blazers and jackets that they are known for in the Prince of Wales plaid and pinstripes for the young woman who wants to dress up at little bit more for any occasion.
