BCBG duo celebrates with Louisiana flair as Orange is the New Black star creates a commotion
NEW YORK — Max and Lubov Azria kicked off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Thursday with Louisiana flair, but the front row buzz was all about an Orange is the New Black co-star.
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Los Angeles-based BCBG Max Azria line, Lubov Azria said the fall 2014 collection of flowing dresses, tunics and embellished sweats looked to the landscapes and scenery of the Bayou State, with a "juxtapostion of reflections" in stripes of blue, representing the water and sky, and natural tones reflecting the Louisiana landscape.
There is also plenty of fur, too, with sweatshirts embellished in raccoon detail, a caftan shirt dress accented with a fox scarf, and big fur muffs, which they call “hand-warmer clutches.” Too bad they aren't available now with the frigid temperatures here and in much of the nation.
But, alas, it featured no nutria— the Louisiana wildlife staple. Even with the Azrias' down-home salute to the South, the collection remains more Rodeo Drive than Duck Dynasty.
On the front row, Samira Wiley, who portrays the outspoken Poussey on the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black, received the majority of paparazzi attention. It wasn't too surprising that she was wearing orange, although it certainly wasn't a prison outfit. She dazzled onlookers in a BCBG strapless jumpsuit, dubbed the "Simone," in a bright poppy shade.
