    more bounce for the ounce

World's largest bounce house springs into Houston with space, sports, and ninja-type fun

    Steven Devadanam
    Nov 8, 2022 | 5:08 pm

Houstonians ready to jump around this weekend are in luck, as a Guinness -certified tour springs into town for some bouncy fun. The Big Bounce America returns to the Houston area for weekend activities starting Saturday, November 12 and running through Sunday, November 26 at Katy Mills Mall.

Boasting the quite literally — and quite perfectly titled — The World’s Largest Bounce House, at a mammoth and record-holding 16,000 square feet, the touring attraction also includes a new Sport Slam featuring a customized sports arena; an obstacle course called The Giant that spans more than 900 feet; and a space-themed wonderland called airSPACE, perfect for Space City hoppers.

Space is the place in airSPACE.

Tickets start at $19 and can be found online. Special all-access tickets feature a three-hour pass to the event, including a timed session on The World’s Largest Bounce House, plus unlimited access to Sport Slam, The Giant, and airSPACE.

Here’s a little more about where to kick off those shoes and get more bounce for the ounce.

    The World’s Largest Bounce House
Standing 32 feet at its highest point and spanning more than 16,000 square feet, this aired-up juggernaut includes giant slides, ball pits, climbing towers, and basketball hoops, all decked out with oversized characters for those picture-perfect Instagram moments. On center stage, a DJ hosts games, competitions, and spins music for each age group.

    Sport Slam
New for 2022, fans can get their game on at Sport Slam, which features goals, nets, hoops, and balls, climbing zone, and a battle zone where contestants battle to see who can stay on the podium longest.

    The Giant
Aimed at Ninja Warrior wannabes, this massive course dares athletes with 50 different courses and a grand finale monster slide.

    airSPACE
Hopping astronauts will encounter (friendly) aliens, spaceships, moon craters, and a five-lane slide. Three ball pits and a 25-foot inflatable alien await in the center of the cosmic action.

    -----

The Big Bounce America runs weekends from Saturday, November 12 through Sunday, November 26 at Katy Mills Mall, 5000 Katy Mills Cir. For a full schedule, tickets, and more information, visit the official website.

    (BEAVER) NUGGETS OF WISDOM

Buc-ee's new children's book sends the beaver to his first day of school

Buc-ee's has released its first children's book.

Since it opened its first Lake Jackson store in 1982, Buc-ee’s has dabbled in jewelry, plushies, and charcuterie boards. Now, the convenience store giant is dipping its toes into kid lit with the publication of its first children’s book, Buc-ee Goes to School.

The gas station chain is debuting the volume to coincide with the openings of two out-of-state stores, in Rockingham County, Virginia, and Brunswick, Georgia. Author Katherine Alpin is a first-time author, says a press release.

Although the release does not dig into her biography, Alpin is not an emerging talent plucked from obscurity. She is the daughter of Buc-ee’s founder Arch "Beaver" Aplin III and no doubt knows the titular character better than most.

The release does not cover particular plot points, only sharing that it involves the “iconic beaver embarking on a fun and heartwarming first day of school.” Presumably, the spunky rodent will not encounter any more pressing problems than a broken pencil. Still, it’s an opportunity to teach the kiddos about capitalism.

Buc-ee Goes to School was initially released in Brunswick on July 1 and Rockingham County on June 30. A wider release in the upcoming weeks will bring the book to Houston-area stores, including those in Katy, Baytown, and Texas City.

The story is not yet available on Buc-ee’s online store, but plenty of new arrivals have landed. New this season are Day-Glo aqua socks, soak-and-toss water discs, and a beaded pouch that can be carried to PTA meetings.

Only time will tell if Buc-ee will continue his adventures by going to college, pledging a frat, or landing a thankless internship. We wish him well as he continues his matriculation.
