playin' good as hell
Houston-born Lizzo makes history playing former U.S. president's 200-year-old crystal flute
America is getting a history lesson from Houston's very own Lizzo after the Library of Congress allowed her to play a 200-year-old crystal flute.
This 200-year-old crystal flute belonged to former U.S. president James Madison; the classically trained flautist Lizzo said was like playing out of a wine glass.
The Library of Congress was aware the classically trained Houston native and superstar would be in Washington, D.C. for a tour stop Tuesday, September 27. Boasting the largest flute collection in the world, the library staff invited her to play.
Lizzo then played onstage at her show. "I just twerked and played James Madison's crystal flute from the 1800s," Lizzo was recorded saying during the show.

The flute was specifically made in 1813 by French designer Claude Laurent in honor of Madison's second inauguration. It is considered historically significant as Madison's wife, Dolley, is believed to have saved it during war in 1814.
We just did a DNA test. Turns out: It's 100% that [crystal] flute @lizzo played at her D.C. stop on the #SpecialTour tonight. It's safe & sound back at the Library now. Thank you @CapitolPolice for escorting it. Watch this space for more from Lizzo's Library visit. #LizzoAtLOC pic.twitter.com/YnS5wVoALN
