It was a most unusual time for a concert — 10 a.m. on a Monday — but the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra attracted a sold-out audience anyway at Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. On the nippy December morning, 110 guests sipped on warm cider under a propane-heated tent and listened to the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra’s Brass Quintet play a concert including holiday favorites.
Before the concert began, Bayou Bend director Bonnie Campbell spoke and paid tribute to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's longtime director Peter Marzio, who died last week.
“He’s the reason I’m here. He believed in me and brought me to Bayou Bend from Austin,” Campbell said. “I’ll never forget his support.”
After a brief introduction by ROCO Founder Alecia Lawyer, the brass band kicked off the group’s Third Annual Yuletide Concert with “Jingle Bells.”
