Here are the top 11 things to do in Houston this weekend

This weekend, we're sliding into the final month of this year. That means more holiday fun, starting this weekend. Expect street festivals, shopping parties, and...puppies and beer (who doesn't love puppies and beer?).

    Thursday, November 29

    DJGOODGRIEF.blog Launch Party
For nearly two decades, DJ Good Grief has been a DJ who, whether it's at a club, on the radio or at some social function, can always be counted on to come with delicious grooves. He's also good behind a keyboard — a computer one, that is — as evidenced by his new blog, which hit the Interwebs last month. This weekend, he'll have the official launch party for said blog, where he will, of course, be behind the turntables. 8 pm-midnight.

    Friday, November 30

    Holidays at Arrive
Shops at Arrive (formerly known as West Ave) will have a special, holiday-themed pop-up party, complete with an interactive balloon installation called #JingleBellPop, which will available for folks to take selfies at. There will also be pop-up shops, light bites and drinks, a hot chocolate and homemade fudge bar, carolers and a DJ. Guests are also encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy as a donation for the Toys for Tots drive. 6-9 pm.

Paris, Texas at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
For the latest "Top Texas Film Picks" series, the paper will screen this beloved, 1984 indie classic. Penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard and directed by German auteur Wim Wenders, the film follows Harry Dean Stanton's drifter as he tries to reconnect with his family. Hunter Carson, who played Stanton's son, will introduce the film and do a post-film discussion. 7 pm.

    Saturday, December 1

    CYCLE Bike Build 2018
Starting this weekend, children's charity CYCLE (Changing Young Children's Lives through Education) will have a weeklong bicycle build and giveaway, the largest of its kind, at the NRG Center. Each year, volunteers donate and build the bicycles that are awarded to under-privileged students who have achieved their academic goals for the school semester. The bikes will be delivered to these excited kids next Saturday. 7 am.

    Pups, Pies and Pints
Pizza, dogs and beer: three of the most wonderful things on God's green Earth. Now, wouldn't it be awesome if there was one place where you could find all that together? Cane Rosso's Montrose is making sure that happens with this weekend event. The Neapolitan pizzeria is welcoming people and their pets for a day of food and activities, with donations and proceeds going to Pup Squad Animal Rescue. 11 am-3 pm.

    Sneaker Con
Sneaker junkies, your time has officially come this holiday season. Sneaker Con, the place to be for sneaker connoisseurs to buy, sell and trade some of the flyest, the funkiest, the freshest footwear, returns to Houston this weekend. 200 vendors and 150,000 pairs of sneakers will be on hand, as well as the Sneaker Con Authenticated team, who will be examining shoes and legitimizing them. Noon-7 pm.

    Houston's Urban Nutcracker
Sure, you can check out the Houston Ballet's staging of The Nutcracker, which starts this weekend. But that's going to be shown all month long. Why not take a chance on a more, shall we say, "soulful" retelling of the holiday classic. That's what you'll get if you check out this version, where Clare (not Clara) travels with the Nutcracker through the Bayou City, and 100 Houston-area musicians, dancers and actors will be on the stage. 3 pm and 8 pm (3 pm Sunday).

Da Camera presents Pedrito Martinez Group
Grammy-nominated percussionist/bandleader Pedrito Martinez and his group will come down here and perform, as part of Da Camera of Houston's 2018-19 jazz series. Over the past two decades, he has recorded, performed and toured with many artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, and Sting. But expect Martinez and his Big Apple-based band to come with the Afro-Cuban grooves for this show. 8 pm.

    Sunday, December 2

    CultureMap's Holiday Pop-up Shop
Last year, hundreds packed our pop-up shop to shop, sip, and selfie. The popular pop-up returns this year, as Silver Street Studios will transform into a curated boutique featuring 25 of Houston's best vendors like Cotton Club Collection, Kendra Scott, Ammos & Sea, Forth and Nomad, Harper & Jones. For sips, expect a complimentary DIY cocktail bar (to get you in that shopping mood) and exclusive crafting stations where you can even fashion your own gift (crafty!). Tickets are actually going two-for-one now, and the event benefits Kids' Meals. Don't miss this chance to escape the malls, shop in comfort, and snap that perfect pic for your Insta. VIP access starts at 11 am; regular admission opens at noon. Noon-4pm.

    Jingle All the Way Day
We don't know about you, but with all the holiday shopping that's popping off now, don't you think it would be nice if you could get a little blitzed while you're doing it? Thankfully, Saint Arnold Brewing Company will open up its beer hall for a special holiday market showcasing the work of Houston artists and makers. It'll be a day of art, music, cheer, commemorative pint glasses and, of course, beer. 11 am-4 pm.

Cigna Sunday Streets: Main Street Holiday Edition
Cigna Sunday Streets rounds out its season of street-festival fun with with a holiday edition, taking place along Congress Avenue (Milam Street to Main Street), Main Street (Commerce Street to McKinney Street) and McKinney Street (Main Street to La Branch Street). Both pedestrian and bike-friendly, this fest will be anchored by activities at Market Square Park in the Historic District and Discovery Green at Avenida Houston. 4 pm-8 pm.

It's no surprise that most of the worst movies in any given year tend to come from big studios, as the big budget marketing campaigns behind those films build up huge expectations that are then dashed when audiences see what little effort was put into making the movies broadly appealing. Whether it was too much fan service or too little understanding of what it takes to make a story coherent, the worst movies of 2025 were barely worth watching, either in theaters or at home.

Scroll through CultureMap's picks of the 10 worst films of 2025 by using the left and right arrows on each photo.
