Glasstire Art Pick of the Week
David Aylsworth: Marie Antoinette with or without Napoleon
David Aylsworth, a longtime Houston artist (and former Core Fellow at the Glassell School of Art), is one of the most solid and admired painters in town. His previous show at Inman Gallery, A Mixture of Catholicism, Pasta, and Pornography (2007) introduced humorous wormy curves and bushy sprouts of brushwork in otherwise abstract compositions. This time around, look for more pared-down, spiky geometric forms in his signature goopy, icing-like texture. As an added plus, Glasstire blogger Beth Secor will be showing new embroidered works in the small gallery. Should be great.
Opening Nov. 6, 6-8 p.m.; on display through Jan. 9, 2010.
