The Ikea Challenge
How long does it take two healthy, young adults to assemble IKEA furniture?Guess and win fabulous prizes!
You watched them as they prepared to put their friendship on the line for the sake of creating a comfortable home away from home. Caroline Gallay and Steven Thomson are remaking a room in our new CultureMap office into the ultimate CultureLounge in only 30 days with furniture provided by IKEA and it's been quite a ride already.
You cheered for a hammock and wet bar, and rallied for a Slip 'n Slide to spice up the oddly-shaped space.
You saw an office divided with visions of the lounge dancing in their heads. But not even the velvet divide could keep the flower child within and the "Steven aesthetic" from blossoming into the crux of The Ikea Challenge.
And that would be ... assembly.
We've finally got furniture. Now we've got to put it together.
Scratch that. Now Caroline and Steven must put it together. Remember, it's IKEA furniture. And who doesn't have a story of woe from putting together something? Or attempting to? They don't call it a challenge for nothing.
But how long will it take Caroline and Steven? That's where you come in.
How long do you think it took Caroline and Steven to put together a couch? What about a dining room table?
We're looking for numbers here, people. Six hours, 32 minutes? Ten minutes flat? A battle du jour erupted, resulting in two and a half days of assembly?
You tell us. Preferably by leaving your guess in a comment on this story so everyone can play along. Twitter and Facebook submissions will also be considered. Give us your best shots.
The (closest) correct answer for each piece of furniture will win some pretty sweet tickets. Guess the couch correctly, and you'll score a four-pack of tickets to the TUTS performance of Hairspray at the Hobby Center. Guess the dining room table correctly, and you'll win a pair of tickets to the Chefs Under Fire Regional Competition.
Ready to play? Be as exact as possible. The winners will be selected on Thursday morning when a story detailing the assembly (with video evidence) is posted.
Start hammering.
