Numbers' days are numbered: Iconic nightclub's building up for lease
The decades-old icon of alternative life in central Houston, Numbers, is up for lease, confirming rumors that the venue's days are numbered. Davis Commercial is looking for a new tenant for the building, hawking the 9,000-square-foot space as an "iconic entertainment venue" with "unique features" (rancid restrooms included).
The realty company's savvy is questionable — the property flyer advertises proximity to burnt-out-but-rebuilding Mai's — but perhaps a noble buyer will be enticed by the $18 per square-foot gross rent. As garden-variety hipsters and high school misfits mourn the loss of yet another counterculture local institution, Houston awaits what chef-driven restaurant will appear in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Numbers' website still lists upcoming events, including a performance by Of Montreal and the annual Halloween party.
