Fierce Houston Women
The Bloggess dishes on her Katie Couric appearance: A near fall, a ripped dress& adorability overload
In the inaugural week of her new daytime talk show, Katie, Katie Couric has welcomed some seriously A-list guests, including Heidi Klum and Sheryl Crow.
But for Thursday's show, her fourth ever, Couric is turning to a couple of Houston ladies to give advice on "Daring Greatly." The title of the show is inspired by a book of the same name by University of Houston research professor Dr. Brené Brown. The segment also features hilarious author (and former Houstonian) Jenny Lawson, known on the Internet as The Bloggess.
According to the episode guide, Couric chose Brown and Lawson because their personal stories inspired her.
"What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? That's what daring greatly is. That's what being vulnerable is," Brown tells Couric in the episode.
Lawson is technically no longer a Houstonian after recently selling her Pearland home three years after moving to the Hill Country, but she's so great we continue to claim her anyway. She talked to Couric about starting the Traveling Red Dress movement, in which people around the world share fun, impractical dresses in an effort to take time to celebrate themselves and live in the moment.
As Lawson wrote about the experience on her blog,
I think I’m probably not supposed to give away the details of the show but I can tell you that Katie Couric is adorable and so tiny that I could eat her in one sitting and still want dessert. Also, they put me in a (very fancy but quite tight) dress and a pair of heels I could barely stand in and when I wobbled out onto the stage I almost fell on Katie and crushed her. Plus, when I sat down I heard a ripping sound and I knew it was my dress but I had this terrible feeling that Katie thought I’d farted. Let me assure you, I would never fart in front of Katie Couric. I have standards, people."
Katie airs in Houston on KTRK Ch. 13 at 3 p.m. Check out a preview of Brown and Lawson's episode below.
