Bob Dylan announces Houston-area stop as part of major U.S. tour
Like a rolling stone, music icon Bob Dylan is taking to the road again for 25 U.S. dates this fall and the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land is the beneficiary of one of his stops. The most storied singer-songwriter in the American songbook will perform on Sunday, October 14. Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 10 at 10 am.
His Never Ending Tour recently traveled to Europe this spring and is currently selling out dates in Southeast Asia and Australia. His latest musical output is the Live 1962-1966: Rare Performances from The Copyright Collections and the 2017 triple covers album Triplicate.
Dylan is a national treasure, providing the soundtrack for a number of cultural movements over nearly 60 years of performing and recording. He’s the writer of countless stone-cold classic albums and tracks, not limited to “The Times Are A-Changin’,” “Hurricane,” “Tangled Up in Blue,” “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright,” and “Mr. Tambourine Man,” and has influenced an immeasurable number of artists since his career began. He made a massive impact on American folk music in the '60s before incorporating electric guitars and a more predominant rock sound in the '70s. He was a member of the legendary supergroup The Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne in the '80s.
As he is now 77 years old, the number of shows left for Dylan to play are limited. He’s knocked on heaven’s door before, most notably in 1997 when he contracted histoplasmosis, a potentially fatal heart condition, before bouncing back and releasing what is considered his best late-career album, the Grammy Award-winning Album of the Year, Time Out of Mind. He’s been honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and almost any other award that can be bestowed on a musician.
