Beyoncé ups her Michelle Obama love, shows she's all in on the reelectioncampaign
Beyoncé might have quietly supported President Barack Obama in 2008, but since his election she's been one of his most visible supporters.
In addition to serenading Barack and Michelle at the inauguration gala and at a state dinner honoring Mexico's president, Beyoncé also designed a T-shirt for his reelection campaign, and she told Politico that she plans to campaign for him this fall.
Now she's appeared in a campaign video that focuses on Michelle Obama. Beyoncé's love for Michelle is hardly a secret — in April the singer released a letter that she wrote to the First Lady thanking her for her example and noting that "I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to."
Speaking softly, Beyoncé looks like she's genuinely moved when talking about Michelle.
(It looks like the love is mutual, too. In an interview with People magazine, Michelle Obama said if she could be someone else, she'd be Beyoncé.)
In the video, Beyoncé talks about why she wrote the letter ("I wanted her to know I'm very grateful for everything she's doing for our country and also for women around the world") and adds that "I'm so in awe of Michelle Obama, every time I see her she inspires me, she empowers me, she encourages me." She also mentions the First Lady's support for veterans' families and for childhood fitness and health initiatives.
Speaking softly, Beyoncé looks like she's genuinely moved when talking about Michelle, and the e-mail blast sent by the campaign has her name in the sender line, a sign of her commitment to getting her message out.
For a celebrity that's notorious for keeping her personal life as private as possible, it's a very public endorsement. Does this mean Beyoncé and hubby Jay-Z will be opening up their home for a fundraiser like celeb supporters Sarah Jessica Parker and George Clooney did? I guess we'll see.
What do you think of Beyoncé's decision to join the campaign?
