Server error: Test your patience by pre-ordering an iPhone 4
Planning on securing your iPhone 4 today? Unless you were up with the roosters, your luck will be running at dial-up speed in this endeavor.
If your ear's not exactly to the firewall, today is the official iPhone Pre-Order Day, where Apple apostles hustle to acquire the game-changing new iPhone 4.
For those of you with iPhone envy (or even a techie sweet tooth), today was supposed to be your day.
In theory.
Unfortunately, everyone else's grubby cyberpaws sometimes muck it all up. We know. We sympathize. We're rubbing your back.
In practice, if you didn't wake up at 5:00 a.m., you probably haven't seen much more than a litany of excuses in place of your actual ability to order the gadget on the site. We kid you not. Some have even ventured to call pre-ordering "a total disaster." Zing.
And if you're holding your breath for the white version, suffice it to say you'll be in standby mode for quite awhile.
Of course, savvy Houstonians have discovered high-speed workarounds, such as — gasp! — actually picking up the phone and calling AT&T to place the order. But hello, we're a digital magazine; we'd never encourage you to do such a heinous thing.
We hate to be trite, but what's a techie to do when all else fails on the Apple front? Old adages are neatly applicable here. "If at first you don't succeed, click Apply, Apply again."
Regale us with your stories of failed attempts at ordering the iPhone. Will you keep trying today? And if you're one of the chosen few and you've been successful, what worked?
