MTV on the hunt for a hot new TJ: Vanessa Minnillo's legacy is in no danger
Does a Tweeter also have to look like Vanessa Minnillo?
Do you have what it takes to be a Twitter jockey?
Calling it a "natural evolution" of its programming, MTV is pitting would-be social media mavens against each other for a six-figure salary and the title of MTV T.J. — that's Twitter Jockey.
The job (obviously) involves major social media presence (think live-tweeting Kanye-esque VMA moments) but also some screen-time. Which begs the question, how good-looking do these T.J.'s have to be? Our social media expert is a hottie, but how many major online personalities are real lookers?
I think it'd be hard to maintain an MTV-ready tan from behind a laptop screen or typing intently into a smartphone. (Those things aren't pool or beach-friendly).
The project is officially titled "Follow me: The Search for the First MTV T.J." and will announce 18 candidates this week. The candidates apparently don't even know who they are yet, as they were culled from MTV's most prolific viewers in social media. (Willing to bet none of them look like Vanessa Minnillo).
Two more candidates are to be added — you can nominate yourself or a friend at tj.mtv.com — with the winner to be annouced Aug. 8.
