New Alamo Drafthouse brings high-tech screens and lots of whiskey to Katy outpost
Houston-area cinephiles rejoice! The newest Alamo Drafthouse has set its opening date. Located in Katy's popular LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch mixed-use development, the 37,000 square foot, eight-screen cinema will begin its soft opening on Monday, July 2.
The theater will celebrate its grand opening less than three weeks later on Friday, July 20. Alamo Drafthouse's current Katy location in Mason Park will close June 21.
“We are thrilled to introduce a new and improved Alamo Drafthouse experience to Houston film lovers,” said Neil Billingsley-Michaelsen, president and CEO of Triple Tap Ventures LLC, the owner and operator of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in Houston. “Alamo LaCenterra will feature cutting-edge laser projection, luxurious theater recliners, an expansive and updated menu, and 46 craft beers on tap. We cannot wait to provide our guests the Alamo Drafthouse’s signature movie going experience in this state-of-the-art facility."
As one would expect, the new location features 4K digital projection and digital surround sound. Even better, Alamo is doing its part to eliminate neck strain by removing the front row from each auditorium. Other creature comforts include a bar and lounge with craft beer, cocktails, and a bar fully stocked with an extensive list of American whiskeys.
Known for its unique programming like movie quote-a-longs and film festivals, Alamo Drafthouse shows new releases, classics, and independent films. Each location also offers a full menu of food and drinks that patrons may consume while they watch the films.
During the soft opening period of July 2 to 19, Alamo will offer discounts on food and drinks. The grand opening weekend will feature the eagerly-anticipated debuts of two sequels: Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and The Equalizer 2.
This new location is one of four Drafthouses that Triple Tap plans to open in Houston. Back in 2015, the company also announced plans to open in Sugar Land's Imperial Market mixed-use development.
