Michael Douglas isn't giving up oral sex even if it gave him cancer: He's not going down with a fight
This week in unsavory mental image news: Academy Award winner Michael Douglas, in all his infinite medical wisdom, attributed his bout with throat cancer not to a lifetime of drinking and smoking but rather to having regularly performed oral sex. In an already-infamous interview with the Guardian, the 68-year-old said that "this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus."
(No word yet on how Douglas's wife Catherine Zeta Jones, who has said before, "I'm not the kind of person who likes to shout my personal issues from the rooftops," feels about the intimate announcement and all that jazz.)
This reasoning may explain why the star was photographed smoking even after his cancer diagnosis. Although, it's not like he gave up his other "risky" behaviors instead. He told the Guardian that, with this type of cancer, "cunnilingus is also the best cure."
Clearly, Douglas has some expertise in these matters and he may have even unintentionally brought renewed attention to preventative vaccines like Gardasil. However, while experts confirm there is some truth to his claims, they are wary to say that oral sex was the sole contributing factor to the heavy smoker's cancer diagnosis.
Whatever the case, Douglas overcame the odds and is now two-years cancer-free and starring in the much-buzzed-over new HBO biopicBeyond the Candelabra as the famously flamboyant pianist Liberace.
