Casting curves
Rosie's sexier? The real skinny on the Megan Fox and Michael Bay Transformersbreakup
- Megan Fox
- Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Depending on the source, Megan Fox either quit or was fired from Transformers 3, the blockbuster franchise that launched her as a star.
In Camp Fox, we have People and The Wrap, in which her publicists insist Fox quit the movie over director Michael Bay's verbal abuse. Bay is known for being a bit of a tyrant — some sources are also coming out and saying that Transformers co-star Isabel Lucas and Pearl Harbor leading lady Kate Beckinsale also had issues with him.
But comparing your director publicly to real tyrants — specifically, Hitler and Napoleon — might have been exactly what earned Fox a dismissal from Bay and Paramount, according to other sources. Deadline reported that Paramount chose not to pick up the option to cast Fox, and that it was ultimately Bay's decision.
But when it comes to Hollywood, nothing is ever cut and dry. If Fox was going to be fired over her comments, why wait almost a year to do so? Transformers star Shia LaBoeuf also bad-mouthed the movie, saying he "wasn't impressed" with Revenge of the Fallen and that the film had "lost it's heart." And unlike Fox, LaBeouf has had some less-than-flattering off-camera antics come to light. But LaBoeuf still has his job.
So now we have the latest leak: Fox quit because Bay wanted her to gain some weight. Despite the fact that this is almost too convenient to be true — it makes Bay look both in charge of the decision and not like an asshole — it held some plausibility, since Fox complained in Allure that Bay made her get an unhealthy tan for the previous films, and refused to do it again.
But with the casting of Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as LaBeouf's new love interest (*cough* in his dreams *cough*) it looks like casting someone with a few more curves wasn't really on the agenda. The runners-up? Sarah Wright and Sports Illustrated cover girl Brooklyn Decker.
I mean, if they wanted to sell this story, they should have at least pretended to talk to the gorgeous, curvaceous America Ferrera.
Otherwise it just looks like Michael Bay is head of the Hollywood he-man women-haters club.
