It's Memorial Day weekend, and some of you may have already laid out your plans — barbecuing in the backyard, chilling at the crib with your loved ones, rewatching the last season of Game of Thrones and trying to see where it all went wrong — for a free Monday.
However, if you want to venture out and do some more public things — and maybe even pay tribute to those who've served this country while you're at it — may we suggest this octet of events that are taking place this Memorial Day:
City of Sugar Land presents Memorial Day Ceremony
The City of Sugar Land will honor the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces with its 10th-annual Memorial Day ceremony. The program will include patriotic music, free educational, and commemorative activities, on-site military exhibits, and a flag ceremony. 10 am.
Floater Promoter Memorial Day Party
Billed as "the biggest day party in town," this shindig (which will be held at Aloft Houston by The Galleria) will have food, drinks, hookahs, and other fun things. Ladies are encouraged to wear sundresses, while the fellas are encouraged to break out the short sets. 11 am to 10 pm.
Memorial Day 10K and 5K at St. Thomas High School
Want to start the day off by getting your competitive running on? All participants receive a a race timing chip, a Memorial Day 10K finisher medal and a unisex t-shirt, while the kids-K participants receive a T-shirt and a finisher medal. Join in the fun after the race with food, drink, music, and more. 7-10 am.
Memorial Day All You Can Eat Crawfish Boil
The folks at Bobcat Teddy's Ice House believe Memorial Day is a good time to have a good ol', all-you-can-eat crawfish boil out on the patio. The crawfish, courtesy of Lafitte's Seafood, is going for $17 ($20 at the door). But there will also be complimentary burgers and hot dogs, as well as $3 drink specials. 1-8 pm.
Memorial Day Bash at Dino's Den
This watering hole will be pulling out all the stops for its little holiday get-together. Gourmet burgers will be grilled up by cook Matt Wommack, while DJ 2Tall will be spinning the music. As for all-day drink specials, we got $1 Jello shots, $3 wells & domestic beers, $4.50 Deep Eddy flavors and $5 Tito's & Espolon. 5-10 pm.
Memorial Day Extravaganza at The Post Bingo
You wanna celebrate this day with a nice game of bingo or two? Well, this spot will have a triple session of bingo, summer-themed door prize giveaways, free beer, and more. Plus, a double-action computer for all 3 sessions will be just $21. 10 am to 5 pm.
Memorial Day Ride at Market Square Park
Pack your spare tires and cycling essentials for this holiday stroll. Honor and remember those who sacrifice so much for our freedom with this 44-mile round trip, where you'll stop at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site midway. Cyclists are encouraged to where red, white, and blue — and let's not forget about a helmet. 7 am.
Old Humble Distilling Memorial Day Anniversary Party
It's been seven years of fine business for the Old Humble Distilling Company. And they'll be using this Memorial Day to celebrate their success. For the copper anniversary, expect food, music, and, of course, good whiskey. 4-9 pm.
