All hail the Queen! Survivor winner burns an arrogant man to land a cool million
Survivor: Heroes vs Villains finale began with a final five of four villains (Jerri Manthey, Sandra Diaz-Twine, Parvati Shallow, Russell Hantz ) and one hero (Colby Donaldson).
It didn't take long for the remaining villains to get rid of Colby proving that a hero mentality doesn't always win. He probably could have made it further, but time after time he gave up.
He could have won challenges, but dropped out. He.could have made strategic alliances, but didn't try. Colby lost because he didn't want to win badly enough.
The next day, Russell won an immunity challenge giving him all the power to determine the final three. Strategically, he saw Sandra as a shoe in for the final three. But he was clueless to all the plays she made behind the scenes — a fatal error.
That left Parvati and Jerri. Pavarti was a part of his closest alliance but harder to beat. Jerri was not as close to Russell as Parvati, but much easier for him to beat.
In the end he chose Parvati thinking she would be seen as riding his coattails.
When it came down to the final vote though, the majority went to Sandra making her the winner of a million dollars. The 34-year-old bank teller also grabbed a little piece of reality TV history, becoming the first person to win Survivor twice.
It makes me the Queen," Sandra said.
I couldn't be happier. Sandra protected herself the entire game and made strategic maneuvers to manipulate Russell and use his insecurities to her advantage. He was a dominant player but she controlled him — keeping him close when she needed him, dropping doubts into his mind when she was threatened and in the end, burned his hat when she didn't need him anymore.
The odds were against her, but she played to move herself to the next level and won because of it.
Russell has to be kicking himself now — as competitive and certain he was of winning — he has once again lost to a woman he underestimated. A woman who once again turned the jury against him.
Parvati came the closest to beating Sandra, but she aligned herself with villain and was unfortunately unpopular by association.
On the reunion show, Russell made a plea to include a popularity vote from America — thinking he would definitely win in that scenario. Having watched the whole season, I think Sandra proved to be the better competitor and I wouldn't change a thing about the outcome.
What do you think? Did Sandra deserve to win? Would Russell have had a chance in a America vote?
