Your deepest, darkest & naughtiest secrets exposed: BooTown's Grown-up Storytimeis back
When "Karen" was experimenting with prostitution, BooTown's Emily Hynds told all about it. When humans-cum-rowdy-kitties unleashed their inner macho ghetto, BooTown listened. And when "John" saw a red-haired vagina for the first time, it was BooTown that captured his testimony.
How has Houston survived without BooTown's monthly "Grown-up Storytime" comedy bash?
After a two-month hiatus, the crazies at the local theater company are back in business at Rudyard's with the storytelling bacchanal's 45th episode. What started as a grassroots gathering in 2008 has developed into a late-night, anything-goes show of hilarious and anonymous stories from Houstonians.
Divulge your deepest, darkest and unruly stories, share them with the world without having to identify yourself. What do you have to lose?
Filled with courage, I submitted a true account of how my two-week college roommate ended up wearing a two-liter bottle of ginger ale after she depleted my supply of Cool Ranch Doritos. Holding back tears during the performance, I recognized the story may have been funnier to me than for others listening.
But I assure you, Houston has a naughtier sense of humor than this classical music junkie.
"Grown-up Story Time" works like this: Anyone is invited to forward a narrative via email. BooTown's troupe pores over the submissions and pairs them with a performing artist. On the third Tuesday of the month, they are read at Rudyard's incognito.
So, think of it as an opportunity to divulge your deepest, darkest, unruly stories and share them with the world without having to identify yourself. What do you have to lose?
BooTown's "Grown-up Storytime No. 45" is on Tuesday, 9 p.m. at Rudyard's. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
