And Simon hasn't even left yet ...
The worst American Idol season ever: Wake me up when it's over
Michael Lynche is gone from American Idol — remind me why I care?
This season's American Idol has gotten progressively worse and whoever wins will probably be soon forgotten like Ruben Studdard. It's going to come down to Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox and neither one has really shone the past few weeks. Their performances are good, OK, but not star quality.
A few weeks back, Simon Cowell told Crystal she needed to start picking songs to win the competition. She argued that she was picking songs to be true to herself — no wonder the show's a yawner.
If you're just looking for songs that are true to you, then you will miss songs that appeal to the public. The trick is to find songs that do both and I think Crystal is missing this piece. I still like her, still want her to win, but the performance level hasn't reached stardom yet.
As far as Lee goes, I appreciate the improvement but he hasn't reached star status. We're getting down to the final episodes and we're all still waiting for him to come out of his shell. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken were all performing at levels well above where he is, or where Crystal is for that matter.
In the weeks ahead, I'm hoping they turn it up a notch. The winner will be whoever pulls out an amazing performance in the next couple weeks, it could even be Casey James if he just applies himself. The good news is, there's only two weeks left of these lame performers. The bad news is that means there are only two weeks left of Simon.
With Simon's impending departure, I think this is the beginning of the end for American Idol.
