The secret is out: This year's Freedom Over Texas headliner music acts are . . .
Freedom Over Texas, Mayor Annise Parker's Fourth of July celebration, will bring family-friendly activities and Billboard names as big as the annual fireworks extravaganza for its 26th year.
CultureMap has learned that Billy Currington and Sara Evans will be the headliners for this year's Freedom Over Texas. The official announcement will come Monday in a press conference.
Currington, the Georgian heart-throb whose mop of curly hair is a match for his genuine lyrics, has seen a dozen No. 1 hits on the Billboard Country Music charts. Singer/songwriter Evans first came to Nashville's attention with her third studio album, Born to Fly, and has steadily produced hit records over the past decade.
Admission to Freedom Over Texas is $8 per person (for children 6 and over), and activities begin at 4 p.m at Eleanor Tinsley Park. The Bud Light Texas Volleyball Championship will be played in the park — and military artifacts and vintage aircrafts will be on display.
Children can hang out in the Walmart All-American Kids Zone, with a Radio Disney, Jr. Area plus live entertainment, fun and games. Families can participate in the Fitness Challenge Area, with physical activities and representatives from all five of Houston's professional sports teams. And, of course, adults may enjoy the Budweiser Beer Garden.
Add some star-spangled tunes and an evening full of tear-jerking flyovers, and you've got a patriot's dream.
(If attendees are feeling especially patriotic, all five military branches will be conducting on-site recruiting.)
As a grand finale for the celebration, a massive pyrotechnics show will take place to choreographed music. Though gated attendance is limited to 100,000 people, the (arguably better) view from the outside will be available to more than two million.
Have you started planning for July Fourth already?
