Forget flowers, make mom coo for Mother's Day with Babies
Babies are invading the big screen today just in time for Mother's Day — and the documentary (which would more appropriately be called a "montage-of-cute") is just what it sounds like.
Trailing four babies during the first year of their lives, the film has no narration and we barely hear from the parents. It's all babies, all the time.
A little boy from rural Mongolia is my favorite, especially as his family's customs make the Seattle parents who coddle their infant look so unnecessarily fussy. They take their not-yet-walking daughter, Hattie, to baby yoga, while the little boy from Mongolia — named Bayar — is taken home from the hospital on the back of his dad's motorcycle while his young brother clings for life up front.
It's 80 minutes of pure bliss for a baby-crazed person like myself, with plenty of laughs and aww-inducing moments. The other featured babies are Ponijao, who hails from Namibia, and Mari, who lives with her parents in Tokyo.
I can't think of a more foolproof Mother's Day outing. It's sure to bring back memories of just how adorable you were with only minimal reminders of the screaming, and no hint of the complexities to come. (Perfect!)
