Weekend Concert Pick
Making double-wides, cheap beer & fried fat romantic
Even though the B-52's were around first and were definitely the more commercially successful act, I always felt Southern Culture on the Skids maintained the cool underground, grassroots credibility that the B-52's always craved.
Now that the petals have wilted on the B-52's career and S.C.OT.S continue to record and tour clubs strong as ever, it's now clear why.
It's better to be consistently good then to peak once and then never again meet public expectations.
For the last quarter-century, S.C.O.T.S. has idled somewhere between surf rock, rockabilly and indie rock. Their serious licks and tongue-in-cheek lyrics has made the term "white trash" a badge of honor. They view the world through windows of a double-wide motor home or cheap hotel rooms while eating fried foods and cheap beer and somehow make the whole thing romantic.
Come join them for a weekend of shows at the Continental Club and sing along to crowd favorites like "Corn Liquor," "House of Bamboo," "Mojo Box," and ""Daddy Was A Preacher But Mama Was A Go-Go Girl."
Once you experience S.C.O.T.S., the B-52's "Rock Lobster" will seem like child's play.
