A 3-D backlash: Clash of the Titans getting ripped for reaching
If you're planning on seeing Clash of the Titans over the long weekend, see it in the good ol' second dimension.
The reviews are in and they say the latest 3-D wunderkind falls painfully short of its predecessors in the genre. A Los Angeles Times movie critic broaches the idea that this could be the first movie that's ever been made worse by 3-D.
Part of the problem is that it was all done post-production. Clash of Titans wasn't intended to be a 3-D movie — until everyone saw how much success (and extra box office) that more expensive-to-see 3-D movies like Avatar racked up. While Avatar (which Sam Worthington, who plays Perseus in Clash, also starred in) was filmed in 3-D, Clash of the Titans was forced into the genre after filming had already wrapped.
The result is a few awkwardly 3-D stretchy moments due to sloppy, rushed production. It actually almost detracts from Clash of the Titans to see it in 3-D, several more critics argue .
As far as the storytelling content of this much-anticipated remake? Critics say the film's cast is strong (Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes) but its characters underdeveloped.
Still, if you want an exciting action flick, it'll give you your fix. Just go without the glasses.
