From parking to purses: What you should expect at the Big Dance Concert Series
If you're planning on taking in some of the free concerts organized this weekend in celebration of the men's Final Four, make sure you're prepared. Discovery Green will be fenced and gated for the event, and surrounding streets began shutting down Monday.
Getting there
Street closures will remain, in some cases, through Tuesday in the area immediately surrounding Discovery Green and the George R. Brown. A full list of planned closures can be accessed here.
The Convention Center parking lot beneath Discovery Green will be closed for the duration of the weekend, so expect to park several blocks away or use one of Metro's four park-and-ride locations for $5 round-trip. A mobile guide to map your trip can be accessed at finalfourmobile.com.
If you do drive, make sure to enter downtown from either the north or the east side of Discovery Green.
Where to go
The four entry gates are located at Crawford and Lamar; Lamar near La Branch; Crawford south of Rusk; and Avenida de las Americas at the Brown Promenade. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Friday, 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
No amenities or bathrooms are set up outside of the gates, so attendees are discouraged from lining up excessively early. (For more info on planned crowd control, see our earlier story here.)
What (not) to bring
All attendees will have to pass through a security check-point and are subject to a pat down. Purses are also subject to a peep.
No outside food or beverages are permitted, and ladies, leave your oversized bags at home. No bags larger than 11 inches by 17 inches will be permitted, which leaves out most backpacks.
Other prohibited items include umbrellas, chairs, coolers, cameras, tents or awnings, noisemakers, promotional materials and your dog (unless it's a service animal.) A full list of items can be found here.
