Countdown to the Oscars
Pick Oscar's Best Picture and earn a chance for a year's free film pass to Sundance Cinemas
It's coming down to the wire.
With the telecast of the 85th Annual Academy Awards set for Sunday night, only two categories remain in CultureMap's Second Annual Pick the Oscar Winners contest.
Next up: Best Picture.
The race among the nine films is tight, although lately Argo has edged ahead by virtue of sweeping all of the major awards (Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, the Producers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of America, BAFTA) leading up to the Oscars.
But Lincoln, which led all films with 12 nominations, is a favorite, too. And don't count out producer Harvey Weinstein, who has put all of his marketing muscle behind his Silver Linings Playbook.
Other nominated films that could score an upset: Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Zero Dark Thirty and Amour.
To enter, check out our CulturePoll on the CultureMap home page and pick the winner in the featured category. The Best Picture poll kicks off today and, the final category, Best Director, starts on Thursday.
Every correct entry will be entered into a drawing, where the randomly selected Grand Prize champ will receive a year-long pass to Sundance Cinemas, along with 10 runners-up, who will each receive a pass to a movie at the cinema complex at Bayou Place in downtown Houston.
So far, here are the consensus choices from CultureMap readers:
Best Actor — Daniel Day Lewis, Lincoln
Best Actress — Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook
Best Supporting Actor — Christoph Waltz, Django Unchained
Best Supporting Actress — Anne Hathaway, Les Miserables
