Despite a Grammys upset, teen icon Justin Bieber scored big across the pond at Tuesday evening's Brit Awards, from which he walked away with the title of International Breakthrough Act.
Bieber publicly lamented losing the Grammy for Best New Artist to Esperanza Spalding and for Pop Vocal Album to Lady Gaga. During appearances on both Chelsea Lately and Conan, the Canadian admitted to "disappointment" — but redeemed his honor with a win across the Atlantic a mere 48 hours later.
Fellow North Americans Rihanna and The Arcade Fire also absconded with awards for Best International Female Solo Artist and Best International Group (respectively). Arcade Fire's album, The Suburbs, was christened Best International Album, which will be placed on the shelf beside their Album of the Year Grammy.
"We're called Arcade Fire — check it out on Google," Arcade Fire's The Woodlands-raised band leader Win Butler said in accepting the Brit for Best International Group.
Perhaps we're not so different from our English ancestors after all.
