Say what? Beyonce called "disgusting" by conservative parents: Sexy twerk triggers crazy outrage

    Tyler Rudick
    Jan 29, 2014 | 9:14 pm

Houston superstar and self-described "modern-day feminist" Beyoncé is taking heat from both concerned parents and women's activists this week in the wake of her steamy duet with husband Jay-Z at Sunday night's Grammy Awards.

The couple opened the awards ceremony with a much-anticipated performance of Beyoncé's current chart-topper "Drunk in Love,” an uncompromising and blush-worthy opus to marital bliss.

With the lights down low and smoke machines at full blast, Queen Bey hit every note with ease while she writhed around a rotating chair in a sheer body suit. A tuxedo-clad Jay-Z sneaked onstage halfway through the track as the two proceeded to grind their way to the audience.

Fans gushed as grumpy critics turned to social media.

Angry parents have called the performance everything from "inappropriate" to "disgusting."

The Daily Mail compiled a list of rants, with angry parents leading a barrage of complaints calling Beyoncé's efforts everything from "inappropriate" to "disgusting." Others asked why she is celebrated for twerk-ridden dance moves that nearly ruined Miley Cyrus' career in August . . . although, a quick look at each performance (here and here) should settle that debate pretty quickly.

Meanwhile, critics have been quick to point out that the 32-year-old Beyonce — in spite of her recently-published essay on gender inequality — made her way through the song wearing barely a stitch while her husband danced fully clothed.

Beyoncé's brand of 21st-century feminism has been hotly discussed for years, particularly since her marriage to Jay-Z in 2008. While pop stars like Lady Gaga, Bjork and Katy Perry refuse to call themselves feminists, the Houston native has come to embrace the label, albeit reluctantly.

"I guess I am a modern-day feminist," she told British Vogue in April 2013, adding that the word can be "very extreme."

She continued, "Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I’m just a woman and I love being a woman . . . I do believe in equality and that we have a way to go and it’s something that’s pushed aside and something that we have been conditioned to accept."

Fans gushed as critics called the performance "inappropriate."

Dancing with the Stars: Live will come to American Airlines Center in Dallas on March 16, 2027.

The reality competition show Dancing with the Stars will once again go on tour in 2027, bringing their moves to more fans than ever in arenas, including a stop at the Toyota Center in Houston on Sunday, March 14.

The tour will feature many of the professional dancers seen on the current season of the program, including Brandon Armstrong, Rylee Arnold, Alan Bersten, Hailey Bills, Sharna Burgess, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson, Emma Slater (returning as co-host), Ezra Sosa, Britt Stewart, and Adele Zaikman.

The dancers will travel to a potentially exhausting 60 cities in the U.S. and Canada over the course of three months, starting in Manchester, New Hampshire on January 21.

In addition to Houston, the tour will make three other Texas stops: Austin on March 12, San Antonio on March 13, and Dallas on March 16.

This will be the first time the show has been performed in arenas; previous tours have utilized smaller, mid-sized venues.

In addition to the professional dancers who are partnered with celebrities on the TV show, the tour will feature the DWTS troupe for the first time, including Kamri Peterson, Onye Stevenson, Jaxon Willard, and Carter Williams.

The tour will be directed by Emmy Award-winning choreographer Mandy Moore (La La Land, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour).

The 35th season of Dancing with the Stars, which started on September 24, is now in its fourth week. Celebrities still competing after elimination night on October 6 include Tatyana Ali, Tyler Cameron, Jenna Dewan, Ezra Frech, Amber Glenn, Maura Higgins, Jackson Olson, Guillermo Rodriguez, Harry Shum Jr., Julia Stiles, and Connor Wood.

Tickets for Dancing with the Stars: Live! go on sale to the public on Tuesday October 13 at 10 am at DWTSTour.com. Fans who want first access to the best seats and VIP can sign up for the presale for free at DWTSTour.com. The Mirrorball Presale starts on Thursday, October 8 at 10 am local time.
