If you've driven down Post Oak Boulevard near the Galleria, you know it looks a bit different this holiday season. The Uptown District is in the middle of a major remodel of Post Oak Boulevard. Instead of dozens of brightly lit Christmas trees, you're seeing bulldozers, construction crews, and blocked lanes.

The Uptown District is stepping up traffic control to help drivers get through the busy holiday shopping zone. On a typical day, 10 traffic officers are working the streets, but during this holiday season, 30 to 40 officers are helping direct traffic.

Crews have also maintained or built temporary driveways to all of the retail centers. Crews are not working on the stretch of Post Oak between Westheimer and West Alabama, adjacent to the Galleria.

"We've maintained access to all of the shopping centers in the area. It's easy to get in and out. If you could do it six months ago, you could do it today," said John Breeding, Uptown Houston District President.

For the first time in 31 years, Christmas trees were not lit along Post Oak Boulevard, but the Uptown District promises that the tree lighting will be back in 2018.
