George H.W. Bush cheers on Texans from hospital, keeps spirits up despiteextended stay
Former president George H.W. Bush was once expected to be released from Methodist Hospital over the weekend, but he remains there in stable condition on Monday.
"He still has the cough, which causes him pain," family spokesman Jim McGrath said. "So as long as he has that he's not anxious to go anywhere."
Bush was admitted to the hospital the Friday after Thanksgiving for fear that a lingering cough associated with bronchitis could turn into pneumonia.
The 88-year-old has received a steady stream of visitors during his extended stay, including son George W. Bush and his wife, Laura Bush, from Dallas, plus Neil and Maria Bush and their son, Pierce.
USA Today reports that the former president had a good day on Sunday and "was in high spirits after another win by the 11-1 Houston Texans football team," which defeated the Tennessee Titans 24-10.
