- Want to try your hand at a jog through the park? Run in the Park, a five-milerun or two-mile walk, takes place following Mayor Annise Parker's ribbon cuttingat 8 a.m.
- Hermann Park's renovated trail is a true urban oasis.
If your preferred running routes include circling Rice, Heights Boulevard and Memorial Park (and maybe Stude Park, when you're feeling frisky), you can now add Hermann Park to the roster.
On Saturday, Mayor Annise Parker will re-open Hermann Park's newly renovated, two-mile pedestrian trail. The trail, which loops around the Hermann Park Golf Course, features a decomposed granite surface with concrete curbs, in addition to new lighting, drainage, and a wider path — up to 14 feet across. The renovation project cost $2 million — and it was done through a federal grant administered by the Texas Department of Transportation.
A five-mile run and a two-mile family walk, dubbed "Run in the Park," will commemorate the occasion, following a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8 a.m.
Formerly the Park to Park Run, this year's event marks the first time that the course route — making use of the new trails — will be entirely confined to the Hermann Park limits.
