Why Sleep?
Drunk shopping: Black Friday early birds meet Thanksgiving lushes with newmidnight hours
For years, there have been two kinds of Thanksgiving people: Those who go to sleep early after the turkey and wake up in the wee hours to shop for deals, and the kind that stay out late avoiding family at the local bars.
Now both holiday types will be united in night owl rampages. Macy's is the latest megastore to announce that it will open at midnight on Black Friday. Macy's, Target, Toy 'R' Us and Kohl's are all opening their stores at midnight, offering sales, door prizes and specials throughout the night and all day Friday, Nov. 25.
Ah yes, just what the post-holiday frenzy needed: More drunk people.
With savvy (or maybe crazy) shoppers camping out all night to get limited-offer deals, stores pushing their opening times ever earlier seems inevitable, especially in an era where people will stay up until 3 a.m. to see the final Harry Potter movie.
Will this create an entirely new market for Black Friday shopping? Those of us who wouldn't be caught dead getting out of bed at 4 a.m. can now just close out our bar tabs and roll up to Target to fight over flat-screen televisions, iPhones and furbies (or whatever the kids these days are into, don't ask me).
Ah yes, just what the post-holiday frenzy needed: More drunk people. Hey, it should at least make opening presents more interesting.
