Two Week Trip
The story behind Gabrielle Giffords' Carolina mission: Follows her Houstontherapist to Asheville
Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who has been recuperating with the help of Houston's The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) at Memorial Hermann, is taking a two-week leave from the Bayou City to attend rehabilitation in Asheville, N.C.
Giffords was shot in the head on Jan. 8 outside of a Tucson, Ariz., grocery store, and received full-time care at TIRR before being released into outpatient care in June and taking up full-time residence at her former astronaut husband's League City home.
CNN reports that Giffords arrived in North Carolina Sunday, with therapy sessions set to begin Monday and last until Nov. 4.
Giffords is reportedly traveling to North Carolina to receive continued care from a therapist who had been treating her in Houston. She will return to Houston to continue outpatient rehabilitation at TIRR at the close of her visit.
