From major American playwright and Alley favorite Edward Albee comes Seascape, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play that tackles two of the playwright’s favorite subjects: marriage and what it means to be human.
With his signature wit, Albee introduces a middle-aged couple, Nancy and Charlie, taking a stroll on a deserted beach. Facing retirement, they argue with comfortable familiarity about how to spend the rest of their lives. When a second couple, sea creatures Sarah and Leslie, arrives from the depths of the ocean, a pitched encounter, both surreal and profound, ensues. It seems that Sarah and Leslie are also at a turning point in their lives and they are also like no other couple Nancy and Charlie have ever met.
From the creators of one of Discovery Green’s most popular public art installations, Los Trompos, comes Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 by Mexican designers Esrawe + Cadena. Sixteen glowing house-like play structures are installed on the Sarofim Lawn where visitors are invited to sit, swing and relax with one another. The designers were inspired by the mercados of Latin America, lively street markets where human connections are made every day.
On opening night, visitors can celebrate the installation with an evening of art, inspiration, and fun. There will be performances by Lifted by Mimbre, a UK all-woman acrobatic dance; a live performance action painting by Ange Hillz to sounds spun by DJ Monstaa and live piano played by DJ Pee Wee from The Too Laid Back Band; and a chance for visitors to tell their stories about the park in celebration of its 15th anniversary.
