Lifesaver: Good Samaritan pulls driver from his flaming SUV in the nick of time
Most passersby would likely avoid a vehicle on the verge of flames, but luckily for one Houston-area man, there was a Good Samaritan nearby to save the day when his did just that.
As KHOU reports, early last Thursday morning, an SUV "went off road and careened off signs, poles and two curbs before it stopped" in the parking lot of an optometrist's office in La Porte.
Though pinned up against the curb, the driver's foot remained on the accelerator, causing sparks and white smoke. An onlooker swooped in just in time, running to the SUV, opening the door and dragging the driver out of the vehicle just as it began to ignite into fire.
"He's the hero. That guy saved him," said Chris Murdock, a reserve Brazoria County Sheriff deputy, who pulled up to the scene just after the incident. Murdock wondered whether there were other passengers in the SUV, but the driver looked to have no companions except a couple of brews.
