Watch your bulldozers & forklifts: Houston No. 2 in the country in heavyequipment theft
For those of you who love to brag about where Houston ranks among other cities, here's one to add to your repertoire: The National Insurance Crime Bureau has listed Houston as the number two city in the country for heavy equipment thefts in 2010 (we were beat by Miami).
Nearby Conroe falls in at number four on the list, and the state of Texas ranks first overall.
This is no laughing matter, as these heists are quite expensive for insurance companies, individual owners and equipment rental agencies, but we have to admit that it's amusing to imagine a getaway chase on a forklift (for whatever reason, it brings to mind a certain scene from Austin Powers.)
Owners of loaders, tractors (wheel type), backhoes, forklifts, excavators, tractors (track type), bulldozers and brush chippers beware — these items are the most attractive to thieves.
