Optimism and arts share the spotlight at annual Houston open house
Theater District Houston drew a standing — and dancing, and singing, and stilt-walking — ovation at its annual Theater District Open House, where more than 1,000 arts lovers gathered to celebrate the performing arts.
CultureMap and Frost Bank joined the lineup too, bringing the Call Me Optimistic chalkboards and inspiring pins that urged "positivity" and "determination."
Poet Scott James typed out personalized haikus on the spot for delighted guests, who could take the tiny poems with them as reminders to be cheerful.
Despite the rain, which briefly moved the boards inside, attendees were happy to share what makes them smile. Answers ranged from fulfilling jobs to not watching the news ("good news only!"), and one proud mother described how her autistic son inspires her daily.
CultureMap and Frost Bank will be hosting more of these pop-up events throughout the year, surprising and delighting folks all over Texas.
