Never too early to start
Exercise starts young: New M.D. Anderson prez Ron DePinho's children run a mileon treadmill every day
Newly installed president of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Dr. Ron DePinho must know something that we don't... Or, OK, possibly more than one thing.
DePinho, a Taekwondo black belt and a cancer researcher noted for his studies on reversing aging in mice, told KUHF that he believes that exercise is such an important part of a healthy lifestyle that his children have incorporated a regular workout program into their daily routine at an early age. He and his wife, Dr. Lynda Chin, also a renowned cancer physician-scientist, have three children, ages 10, eight and seven.
"Since the age of four, my children have, every day, run a mile on the treadmill. In fact, I got them trophies the first time that they broke 10 minutes," DePinho explained in the interview. "We've instilled in them a certain lifestyle ... of eating properly, exercising, working hard at school and of course having fun."
What do you think? Does this seem like proactive parenting or is it just plain pushy?
