Carjacking in the Nordstrom garage raises concern: Should the Galleria step upsecurity?
If you had to guess, how many auto thefts would you say took place in Houston in the past seven days? I just checked the City of Houston's recent crime page: 219.
One of those took place on Thursday at just 5:30 p.m., when a Galleria employee went out to her car on the fourth floor of the indoor parking garage by Nordstrom.
The female employee was approached by a woman seeking directions, followed by a man wielding a gun. The pair ultimately hijacked the victim's car and stole her shoes, right off of her feet.
This woman was attacked in the early evening. I assume that she had to walk barefoot to find help. And mall security was nowhere to be seen. Other mall employees interviewed in a KHOU segment on the carjacking claimed that before Thursday night, "When [they] walk out, [they] never see security."
As CultureMap covered last year and earlier this summer, the Galleria isn't necessarily the safest place in town to leave your car. Does the mall need to beef up security?
