Texas' shopping fever pays off — with jobs: Fourth in the country in retailgrowth
Buying blahs? Yeah right.
The Houston Business Journal is reporting that the Lone Star State ranks No. 4 for retail job gains from June 2011 to June 2012.
Based upon recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Business Journals On Numbers analyzed the states with retail sectors that have rebounded in the past year.
Consumers helped Texas add 15,600 positions over the past year, jumping from 1,160,900 to 1,176,500 retail jobs in that time.
California topped the list at No. 1 with more than 25,000 added jobs, followed by New York with 23,300 and Florida with 16,700. Ohio trailed just behind Texas at No. 5, with 15,000 new retail positions.
Although Texas gains represent only a 1.34 percent increase, the state fairs better than 29 other states: Eighteen of those have seen significant retail job losses over the past year, and two have been stagnant.
