It's Burglary Day!? This August date sees more home robberies than any other day of the year
It's burglars very favorite time of the year.
Creepy new stats from Allstate Insurance note that there are more home burglaries in Texas on Aug. 10 than any other day of the year. Yes, Aug. 10 — which happens to be two days from now. Are you ready?
Oct. 1 and Jan. 1 are the other two days of the year that see the most home burglaries committed in Texas. The numbers are based on claims filed between 2010 and 2012.
Electronics, jewelry and cash are the biggest targets in home burglaries, police officials say.
It's no coincidence that the most burglarly-heavy day of the year comes during the heart of summer vacation season.
Although updating your Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts while on vacation is fun, it might not be the smartest idea to advertise where you are — and where you're not (at home). Word spreads quickly and you never know who is looking at your posts.
Before leaving for a vacation or a weekend getaway, make sure to put any newspaper delivery on hold — though newspaper readership is so low in Houston that may not be as much of a concern here — and don't forgot about not letting mail pile up either. An overstuffed mailbox or advertisement fliers wedged in a screen door are clear indications a house is empty.
And don't worry. It will be Aug. 11 before you know it.
