Cameras roll as killer dog is shot dead by the deputy after long manhunt
After a two-day chase, deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office gunned down a Rottweiler-Mastiff mix responsible for killing a Dayton woman at her own home
On Monday morning, 63-year-old Linda Oliver called her husband at work to tell him she had been bitten by their dog Bruiser. When the line suddenly went dead, the man contacted police to ask them to check on his wife.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene to find an aggressive dog with long black hair pacing inside the home's gated yard. The large animal had blood on its head and back.
When it began to charge at them, deputies successfully shot at the dog once before it escaped into the nearby woods. Inside the house, Oliver was dead from excessive bleeding caused by multiple bites.
After several near captures, police finally shot and killed the animal at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Investigators tell KHOU that Bruiser was a stray until several weeks ago when known animal-lover Linda Oliver started to feed him. It appears the Rottweiler mix attacked one of the family’s smaller dogs. When Oliver attempted to rescue the smaller dog, the larger dog turned on her.
The dog's remains have been sent to a lab for rabies testing.
