The anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall isn't until November, but Houston's PBS affiliate is airing a new documentary it produced about the events leading up to the momentous event tonight at 9 p.m. and again on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
The Wall: A World Divided recounts the history of the wall and the moment that effectively ended the Cold War through the eyes of three world leaders: Helmut Kohl, then Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mikhail Gorbachev, then General Secretary of the Soviet Union, and George H.W. Bush, then President of the United States.
Their perspectives are framed with personal accounts from Berliners that lived through the city's segregation.
Production of the program was handled by award-winning independent documentary film producer, writer and director Eric Stange of Boston. Stange also developed the station's documentary on the life of Jesse Jones,Brother Can You Spare a Billion?
After raising funds to produce the Berlin Wall documentary, HoustonPBS' responsibilities included overseeing content and working on national distribution.
Do you remember where you were when the wall fell?
