Tommy Lee Jones for Texas governor? A new PSA has Dems excited over thepossibility
In a PSA posted online April 29 by Raise Your Hand Texas, a non-profit advocating student achievement, native Texan and mega movie star Tommy Lee Jones urges the public not to vote for measures that would defund Texas public schools.
(We were surprised more hadn't been said about the vid, but saw the date and realized it must have been overshadowed by Royal Wedding fever.)
Jones appears in a Texas classroom in the video, where he urges his fellow Texans:
"Texas ranks 44th in education spending per student. Forty fourth — that's pretty close to last. Now the Texas legislature is trying to cut education even further. That means our kids get less of what they need to learn and compete. That's unacceptable. This affects your children, you grandchildren and our future. it's time to take action. Don't bankrupt our future by cutting back on our kids."
Jones has made no public comment about any intentions to challenge Perry in the campaign for the Texas governorship, but it wouldn't be the first time the star has been pegged to champion the Texas Democrats. Houston radio host Geoff Berg has already launched a campaign to draft Jones for the 2012 United States Senate race, and Kinky Friedman has given him a tip of the cowboy hat.
Watch the PSA below and tell us: Would you vote for Tommy Lee as Texas governor? The man looks good in western wear.
