In a race that raised passions in Piney Point and drew a lot of attention outside the small Memorial-area hamlet, Henry Kollenberg was re-elected to the Piney Point city council.

Kollenberg garnered nearly two-thirds of the vote in Saturday's elections to easily defeat challenger Bobby Orr Jr. in a race that centered around expansion plans for The Kinkaid School, a private academy that has educated many of Houston's business and civic leaders.

As detailed on CultureMap, Kinkaid had purchased a 24-acre tract of land adjoining the school property, with plans for practice fields, tennis courts and an outdoor learning center with nature trails. But the village, which Bloomberg Business Week named the 11th wealthiest town in America, has some of the nation's most stringent zoning laws and the land is zoned for residential use.

After the school's negotiations with residents of the adjoining Stillforest subdivision came to a standstill, the race turned into a referendum on how to handle the property, with neighbors backing Kollenberg and some Kinkaid supporters backing Orr, a businessman with deep ties to the school. School officials emphasized that Kinkaid was not taking sides in the race.

Nearly 900 Piney Point residents voted in the race. Kollenberg took 66.6 percent of the vote to Orr's 33.4 percent.
