What doom & gloom?
Astros opening day: It's a tough job, but someone's gotta save the beer tokens
I can't reveal it because I was sworn to secrecy by a serious-lookin' fella named Lennie, but the password to St. Arnold's Brewery's wireless Internet is astoundingly appropriate. (Hint: it's a less pretentious version of "I'm ever-so-slightly inebriated.")
The local brewery opened its doors Monday to throngs of Astros fans eager to warm up for the big game.
The pre-party to the Astros' season opener is in full swing — and the fans don't seem to troubled by this recent article.
Before I posted up at St. Arnold's to catch the scene — I'm assured that though it's frowned upon, I can save my other three beer tokens for another day — I went down to Minute Maid Park to meet the fans.
The size of the crowd makes me assume that most of Houston has got the day off. There were tons of strollers and tiny jerseys (my favorite) and a live band playing everything from Tejano to GaGa to Michael Jackson.
Parking is already tough, but tickets abound — though you might have to pay a pretty penny. Those that took the early bird tour got to watch the guys in batting practice (I would've loved to get within cat-calling distance of Hunter Pence) but they wouldn't let me in without my game ticket. Luckily, I made a friend in a custom jersey (the back of hers read "SueSue") who promises to send pictures.
Lucky's is also hoppin', so come on down and cheer on our doomed team.
If we lose, there's always Butler.
