On a Zoo Day
Too beautiful not to skinny dip? Naked swim in Hermann Park brings a swiftarrest
It's a perfectly gorgeous Thursday in Houston, one of those days that seem custom ordered from the chamber of commerce. One Houston man apparently deduced that it was a prime skinny dipping day.
So he shed all his clothes and jumped right into the water at Hermann Park, startling nearby park goers according to CultureMap's Joel Luks, who happened to be on the scene with his own family. The impromptu skinny dipper quickly lost his freedom — along with his inhibitions.
The impromptu skinny dipper quickly lost his freedom — along with his inhibitions.
Four park rangers jumped into action and had the man out of the lake and wrapped up in a towel within three minutes, according to Luks. The rangers didn't offer much information, but one said that the man — who appeared to be in his twenties — would likely end up getting fined for swimming.
That's a no-no in McGovern Lake, the land of pedal boats — naked or not.
This all happened toward the end of a Houston Zoo educational day. While many of the kids had already left by the time the skinny dipper dove in, a few remained, which added to the park rangers' urgency.
"You could see they were trying to shield the kids and steer them away," Luks said.
You never know what you'll run across in Houston.
